Fundholding: Helping Donors Write Their Own Story of Generosity

Fundholding is one of the most personal ways donors partner with the Barrow Community Foundation. A fund can begin with gratitude, a family legacy, a desire to honor someone, a passion for education, a commitment to a nonprofit, or a simple love for Barrow County. In 2024, the Foundation launched a focused effort to establish fundholding as a central part of its work, giving donors a local philanthropic home where their values can be thoughtfully managed today and carried forward for the future. We are just getting started.

During 2024-2025, the Foundation added $321,000 in four new fundholding accounts. Across the same reporting period, the Foundation held $2.533 million in assets under management and received $2.08 million in contributions. Those numbers represent much more than financial growth. They represent donors choosing to create flexible charitable tools – including scholarship funds, donor advised funds, field of interest funds, and other endowed resources – that can support the causes and community needs they care about most.

For Lisa Maloof, BCF’s Fundholding and Donor Relations Chair, this work is about helping donors connect their personal stories to Barrow’s future. “Fundholding gives donors a way to turn what matters most to them into lasting local impact,” Maloof said. “It lets us sit beside people, listen to the legacy they want to build, and help create a structure that can keep serving Barrow County for years to come.”
