Starting your fund is easy!
1. What are your goals for charitable giving?
Our staff can help you decide the type of fund that meets your needs. You could have your own fund established in less than a day! Take a look at the variety of fund types offered by the Barrow Community Foundation:
2. Choose a name for your Fund.
Your Fund can have any name you choose! Use your own name, honor a friend or family member, promote a favorite cause, or choose a name that allows you to remain anonymous.
3. Choose your advisors.
Depending on the type of Fund you establish, you may designate current Fund Advisors such as you and your spouse, and successor advisors such as your children and grandchildren. We’ll make sure this information is included in your Fund Agreement.
4. Make an initial gift to establish your fund.
Funds may be established either during the donor’s lifetime or through a bequest, utilizing gifts of cash, publicly traded securities, privately held stock, real estate, or personal property. Upon making an initial establishing contribution, donors are eligible to receive a charitable tax deduction at the time the Fund is created, as well as for any subsequent contributions made to the Fund.
5. Enjoy giving through your Fund!
After your Fund is established, you are able to:
- Make additional contributions to the Fund at any time and in any amount.
- Designate how grant disbursements will be acknowledged, whether under the name of the Fund or anonymously.
- Recommend distributions to charitable organizations, either within the local community or across the United States (if you have a Donor Advised Fund).
Giving is for everyone! Establishing a charitable Fund does not require great wealth, and it isn’t complicated.
