The David F. and Wanda Burel Hawthorne Scholarship was established by Michael Burel to honor his sister and brother-in-law.  The Hawthorne family has been instrumental in the history and development of Auburn, Georgia.

The scholarship is awarded to Barrow County public high school students who live in the Auburn zip code.  It may be used for students to attend any accredited college, university or technical program.
