Raymond H. Reynolds, Sr. Student-Athlete Award

The Raymond H. Reynolds, Sr. Scholarship was established by his family in 2024 in honor of Winder-Barrow High School’s long-time teacher and coach.

Coach Reynolds, who was inducted in the WBHS Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009, graduated from WBHS in 1961 after earning sixteen varsity letters. He played basketball in college, first at South Georgia and then Georgia Southern. He taught and coached at WBHS from 1969 until his retirement in 1993.

This scholarship is awarded to one or two graduating student-athlete(s) each year who shows a high-level of “grit” and/or perseverance, commitment to his/her teammates and a strong desire to compete and be his/her very best.

The $2,500 award is renewable for up to five years as long as the student remains eligible to compete in his or her designated sport and maintains satisfactory academic standing.

Applicants who have signed or expect to sign with a college to play a collegiate-level competitive sport are eligible to apply.  A letter of recommendation from the athletic director, a coach or a teacher is required as part of the application process.
