Dr. Matt Thompson serves as the Chief of Staff of the Barrow County School System. After receiving his degree in psychology from the University of Georgia and specialist degree from Georgia Southern University, he began his career as a school psychologist. He worked as a Testing and Data Specialist and then a Director of Student Services and Accountability in Barrow before becoming Deputy Superintendent in Stephens County.
He earned his doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of Georgia and returned to Barrow as Chief of Staff in 2022.
He serves as chair of the Scholarship Committee for the Barrow Community Foundation and has been instrumental in the partnership with the school system that has made the Building Our Future park project a success.
